Kilgore Falls











Wow! Summer is flying by so quickly. I can't believe we're coming up on the end of July already. It's been filled with swimming, hiking, backyard BBQ, smores, and Popsicles. You know...all the important stuff. The kids are loving it as are we!
This past weekend was our 11th wedding anniversary. We decided to celebrate by taking the kids to Kilgore Falls. It's a little known swimming hole with a beautiful waterfall. A quick half-a-mile hike down through the woods and you are there. It's really beautiful and not very crowded at all. CJ and Casey hiked up to the top of the falls and we all get the opportunity to swim. For those of you who love things like this checkout www.swimmingholes.org.
CJ enjoyed helping some bigger boys build a dam and climbing on the rocks. Ceirnan just enjoyed sitting in the cool water with Mama. The heat index that day was over 100 degrees, but by the falls it felt like it was in the 70s. It was an amazing day.

Hello from Philly

Hello and Happy Holidays from the City of Brotherly Love! Its almost New Year's resolution time and one of mine is to maintain a blog for all our of friends and family who don't get to see our little guy on a daily basis (and for those of you that do too). CJ is ready for Christmas- although Santa is not his favorite as you can see. I'm not sure who is worse at peeking at packages though, CJ or Casey. We were too excited to wait so we've had a Christmas tree up since the weekend after Thanksgiving. We kept the unbreakable ornaments on the lower part of the tree, which has been good since he likes to take them off and throw them to his daddy. He's so smart and observant. I'm just amazed by him. He loves to learn and seems (to me) to be very mechanically minded since he can unscrew or take apart anything you put in front of him. Mystic, CT

We had a great time in Mystic, CT last weekend for Father's Day. We spent Saturday at the Mystic Seaport, a little reanactment community right on the water. We even got to see a replica of the Amistad (the original was either scrapped or sunk). That part was neat, but very sad to see the conditions those men endured. CJ loved the water and kept trying to walk onto all the boats he saw (even the yachts that had just docked for lunch). He really enjoyed driving the ship. We then had lunch at a great little inn right on the water- Seaman's Inn. It was wonderful. On Sunday we went to Mystic Aquarium. CJ really loved it. His favorite was the buluga whales as you can see from the picture. He laughed and oohed and ahhed. It was a great weekend. Now we are just gearing up for our trip to Kansas City and for his birthday in a few weeks. Daddy is going on a guy's camp weekend next weekend with Uncle Sami so CJ and I are planning a trip to the zoo. We'll put up more pics then.

Ceirnan Update and Other

Here is a picture of the kids at the zoo on Saturday. We had beautiful weather in the 70s. CJ and Ceirnan had a great time- although I wish I had taken this picture when we got there instead of as we started to leave. CJ liked the monkey's the best this trip and we all enjoyed a great picnic lunch. Here is the update on Ceirnan's hand. I'm not sure how much everyone actually knows so I'm kind of summarizing it a bit. Ceirnan was born with a few issues on her right arm and hand. The doctors assume that she got her arm stuck above her head and couldn't get it out of that position. It created some pressure wounds that have mostly healed up and it also caused a radial dislocation. At this point, there is no way to fix the radial dislocation, but it doesn't cause her any pain and she's lucky enough to have full range of motion. It also limited or destroyed (not sure yet) the growth of the nerve and muscle on the top of her arm. Therefore , she can't...
